Our foreclosure intervention counselor will asses your situation, educate you about the foreclosure process in New York, teach you how to negotiate with your lender, help you develop a budget and spending plan that works, help you manage your debt, and help you access refinance and modification opportunities. |
HOMEBUYER'S EDUCATION Our first-time home buyer program will prepare you for the responsibilities of home ownership and connect you to the most affordable mortgage products, including any down payment and/or closing cost assistance programs. We are certified by HUD and NeighborWorksAmerica® . Our classes are held every 3rd Saturday of the month. Topics include managing your finances, how to shop for a home, securing a mortgage loan, and selecting the right contractor for your new home. Enrollment fee: $125 |

NHS is proud to offer personalized rental housing counseling to New York City residents, geared toward those who are looking to maximize their rental prospects and find the place that is right for them. Services include Personal Finance Review, Credit Analysis, Budgeting & Money Management, Tenant Rights & Responsibilities, Landlord Rights & Responsibilities, Referrals for Tenant Advocacy Services, Pathways to Home ownership. |
FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION
NHSBS provides financial literacy education and counseling to residents to assist them in developing a fundamental knowledge of debt, credit, savings, budgeting and financial services. Getting Ahead is a free 5-week money management education program that aims at equipping members of the community to achieve their financial goals. |
Youth Financial Literacy and Leadership Program
NHSBS' Youth Financial Literacy and Leadership Program (YFLLP), provides community leadership skills and financial literacy education to youth in Bedford-Stuyvesant, with the intent of achieving long-term commitments by young residents to preserve their community, improve their circumstances and build positive relationships with their peers. The program is provided to young residents to prepare them to make sound financial decisions as they transition into adulthood.The YFLLP teaches the history and nature of money, how to navigate the financial industry, and how to plan and build toward one's goals. |
Home Maintenance Training Program
Let NHS of Bedford-Stuyvesant teach you how to make the necessary repairs and improvements to your home, while saving money on contractor costs. The three-week, hands-on, curriculum includes Basic Measurements / Tools, Interior Repair Planning, Walls & Floors / Carpentry & Wood Framing, Electrical Systems & Repairs, Plumbing Systems & Repairs, Drywall & Finishes.
